We Commit to Supporting Early Childhood Development

As a values-led organisation, our organisation   is committed to the prime importance of acting ethically in the interests of all stakeholders within the societies in which we operate. We have developed a public policy that sets out our commitment towards Early Childhood Development.

Children are the foundation of sustainable development. They represent the future, and ensuring their healthy growth and development ought to be a prime concern of all societies. They need to receive an appropriate care and support to enable their optimal development and manifest their full potential and unique qualities, personalities, talents and abilities. Successful societies safeguard their future by continually striving to improve the well-being of their children.

The early years of life are crucial not only for individual health and physical development, but also for cognitive and social-emotional development. Events in the first few years of life are formative and play a vital role in building human capital.

Children’s early experiences – the bonds they form with their parents and carers, the love, safety and care they receive and their first learning experiences - deeply affect their future physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.

Early childhood is defined as the first years of human life, from conception to 8 years old. This is a period of brain growth and lays the basis for subsequent development. Early childhood development is more than a preparatory stage assisting the child’s transition to adulthood. It places emphasis on developing the whole child - attending to his or her social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs - to establish a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and well-being.

Optimising the early years of children’s lives is the best investment we can make as a society in ensuring their future success. Improving the wellbeing of children is one responsibility among many. These children become physically and mentally healthy adults: people who create better lives for themselves, their communities and their countries.

"That love is an important part of the economy." said the economist James Heckman. It has the highest proven ROI in the world of 700%. Evidence from both developed and developing countries suggests that an additional dollar invested in high quality preschool programmes will yield a return of anywhere between US$6 and US$17.

In an attempt to maximize our efforts to enhance the programmes and policies that help young children reach their full potential, we will join forces with UNICEF Bulgaria, helping spread the message across, bringing to the agenda the importance of early childhood development and the impact on the future of our children.
